During breakfast a group of people wearing dragon costumes and beating drums came through the hotel lobby and through the hotel garden. This is Chinese New Year! Drums and drummers on the left side following the dragons. After wandering our hotel they went back out and down the stret. Fun! Huge hotel pool. It's a windy day, pool has ripples. Hotel garden area trees have red Chinese New Year decorations. Behind the tree is a temporary wall to cut the wind and hide some construction.

Over the wall you can see the river. This is the joining of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers from the left side joining into one. Construction over the wall - building a wide river walk area. The wall has the river and boats painted on it! Kids play area. Gardeners corner.

From the sign "Kanika Boat" on top of the boat you can see how much lower the river is than the walk. Lobby has a pretty Koi pool. Koi in the pool. Lobby is nicely decorated for CNY. Typical lunch for Bob and Sue - veggies and rice.

Tuk-tuk's in Phnom Penh have covers that extend forward to cover the driver! Siem Reap ones didn't have that. Notice the white tank on the left side of the cycle with a drip line going down to the engine - manual way to water-cool the engine in summer heat! Most restaurants have a very wide variety of food! Traffic along the riverfront is crazy and gets gridlocked. Most Tuk-tuks have netting or tarps around the rear seats, for sun protection or to prevent cycle "snatch-and-grab" pick-pockets. Shrines everywhere.

Cycle with balloons but those tanks look like propane tanks. Balloon pilot DanG says propane is heavier than air so maybe they're methane tanks? Helium is expensive...??? Bicycle rickshaw. Rickshaw parking. Three-wheeled car! Sue was thirsty looking for a can of juice. Thanks to Raj we know we like SourSop juice! 50 cents, not bad for tourist prices.

All sorts of foods available. Meal worms too, lots of varieties of protein. Various boats on the river. This was the only bad polluter, puffing smoke.

  Sunset behind the Grand Palace.

Sparrows for sale. Don't eat them, release them to bring you good luck for Chinese New Year. Can you say traffic? These two guys were kicking something like a shuttlecock back and forth. Moving too quickly to get a good photo. These guys were good! The white streak is the shuttlecock flying by.

On the way back to the hotel after lunch, we'd wandered enough that Sue had the munchies so we bought some lotus flowers to munch the seeds. Dinner menu - Chilly [sic] Garlic Bread. Perfectly understandable :-) Nice dinner menu. Here in Cambodia tourist restaurants, prices are in US$ which are accepted everywhere. Veggies with Tofu for Sue

Veggies with Cashew for Bob Our bill - US $8.50 including drinks. Coffin Shop. Guess somebody has to do it. As darkness fell, the Tuk-tuk drivers wrapped up in their sedans, with tarps and mosquito nets. Just like in Siem Reap, an amazing number of people sleep on the streets :-(
