Up early today, leaving the hotel around sunrise for a taxi to Penang Hill. The road is open but busy with people and lorries everywhere taking down all the stalls from the huge festival of Thaipusam. Yesterday would have been crazy. Lots of folks in traditional Hindu garb. Near the Botanical Gardens, a pretty stream winds through some trees.... planted by Starbucks :-) Bob next to the stream. We arrived early for the hike so we're wandering around the Botanical Gardens entrance.

Pretty bridge across the stream. Purple flowes on the trees, orchid-like. Bamboo! Interesting hand-made-looking broom. Leaves get swept up every day. Chickens (here ya go Annie, bird pictures)

This handbill is literally stapled to the leaf. We're meeting across from the Moon Gate. 11 folks today in the Monday Hiking Group Pretty mushrooms on the path. There are a few signs here and there, mostly the leaders knows these trails inside and out. We came up that way and OMG it was steep!

Huge ants here. This one was an inch long. Stopping for a water break. Good views of Gorgetown and we're still going up. unzoomed to show how far away we are. The hiking group checks GPS for how high up we are.

The darker tree-less spot is a cemetary. No trees in cemetaries here, and the brush is burned down yearly. Otherwise... jungle. Down at the bottom, walking back to the juice bar. Lots of stalls being taken down.
