Typical gas station - carries petrol (unleaded), diesel, and liquid petroleum gas. Lookit them prices. That's per liter. Multiply by 3.8 to get price per US gallon -- ~$5.50/gallon. Ouch! Once in a while we saw hay / straw bales just in bales covered with a tarp like in the US, but most were in plastic. We stopped at the "Tin Shed" for wool items, but outside they had other fun stuff to look at. Hey I'm city-bred, even chickens are fun to look at [Sue].

Native flax plant. It's getting cloudy, time to go inside and look for bargains. Got a close-up of the black swans here. In Geraldine, stopping for chocolate and cheese shops. This sign means you can park free for 60 minutes max. Way cool sign

For a chocolate shop with chocolate mice! Cute name The ever-present information site. New Zealand is so well set up for tourists to be self-sufficient - staffed info centers everywhere and they'll book everything for you, from hotels to tours. No need to rent a car, coaches go everywhere, tho probably not as often as in the bigger cities. fun signs

They make all their own cheeses, free tasting. Good ice cream too! Inside the cheese making Deer farm. They are raised for meat, and for their antlers (ground up for eastern medicine, aphrodisiacs) Lots of them around on both north and south islands. Red deer or elk. Finally, a green field with sheep.

This is a typical road - one lane each way, twisty curvy, light traffic. No divided highways or interstates here! Logging. It's end of summer (equivalent of July/Aug in northern hemisphere) so a lot of the hills are brown already. Tree farm, planted in rows Starting to see lots and lots of sheep Mountains in the distance are shrouded in clouds.

Back side, door on the left leads into the kitchen. Solar panels on the roof with the hot water tank! Next to the cottage, 2 little free-standing places with just a bed and a little electric heater, nothing else. Bob and I stay in one. Notice the antlers on the right one :-) Looking at the front of the main house. Notice the double french doors from the living room. Then the hallway has a door to the outside. Then the bathtub has a door to the outside. Tire swing - fun!

Inside - the extension cord just poked through the wall On original canvas pinned to the bathroom wall opposite the WC. Hmm... It's art. These are typical electrical boxes for older houses here. The living room. Notice the archway to the bedroom. From the archway to the bedroom, notice another (blocked) door into the hallway. Hmmm.

Nook for the kitchen table. TV up on the wall. Pretty french doors open onto a large deck with picnic table & chairs. Second bedroom in the house. With this and the 2 outside bedrooms it can sleep 8. But only one bathroom. Bathroom with nice shower. There's a door from here to the outside, and a door to the WC, and a door to the second bedroom. The WC room also had a door to the outside. Nice deck with lounge chair, and picnic table. Somebody was door happy tho. Way too many un-necessary doors. And a high tech solar heater is way overclassing this place. Fun place tho!
