Rockfall area. Notice the wall / fence / shield on the right. With all of Colorado's sheer walls next to roads just like this, I've not seen one of these before. Pretty hills - just like home :-) Gold Fields. We tried panning for gold, but none of us got a fleck. No one else there did either. Oh well.

No holding bouquets? :-) On the tacky tour, an old bucket for a well cart cottages. These are actually re-creations from using this as a movie set from a decade or two ago. Interesting!

Lots of them here. These are not original, but are representative. Mine shaft.

And another And another. Looking back towards the road and river valley. This shaft has lighting inside to see down it - push the button to turn on the lights. Looking inside. Very narrow, and waist-high.

This one is a much larger hole - you could stand upright. Notice the building on the right. It looks like a bakehouse Don't know what it is, but it's big Some kind of pump?

Water ran downhill to the guns that would spray it at the hillside. Bridge for the rail cart track, doesn't look original at all. Rotating section for the cart to turn and spill its contents downhill. From the bottom of the spill, the dirt from the mine shaft would go into the stamping battery below. The stamping battery (brought here from another mining site).

Way cool mechanical toy Exiting the goldfields, crossing back over the river. Notice downstream, the little tram car. close-up

We lean over the bridge to get our reflections in hte clear water. The water is so clear the rocks under the surface are very visible. On the river are jet boats for taking rides in. Don't know about the thing that looks like a slide :-) In the parking lot, a bus of tourists just went over to do "river boarding". Looks like jet skis. The "Mad Dog" trailer is pretty cute From far away, the gold fields with the miners' cottages.

Lots of kayakers on the river. We stop at a vineyard. First, the cheesery (I'm hungry for lunch). Cute. We had a cheese board - 5 kinds of cheese, bread, and all the fixin's. Yumm, and good lunch! Next, the winery. We didn't take the tour but did taste 8 of their wines.

After half a glass Sue got loopy. Most were ok, but none were wonderful enough to buy any. So far the Pinot Gris Fran found in I think Rotorua rules, tho Tekapo had some good ones. Hackett Bungy is the original - they say they invented bungy jumping. We didn't try it :-) Lots of other folks out there about to jump!

Historic Bridge on the way back into Queenstown. Gorgeous mountains surround Queenstown. We stopped here to pick up food for dinner (man Fran's a great cook!)
