This is a roadside turn-off just before the (pay-for) Wai-o-tapu area. This little area has (we think) better mud-pots 'Mr Splutchy' - great plopping mud pots Fran and Sue could have watched all day See videos of Mr Splutchy at the bottom of the index page - wonderful!

Left of here, the rest of the pool bubbles and boils They throw up mud when they boil Fran's new toy! From a hillside above the entrance to Wai-o-tapu

Looking across the valley to where we'll be going Pretty purple/blue berries Gorgeous ferns The paths / stairs are often windy here - in the US most steps in hiking trails just go straight up and down, they don't circle around like a circular stairway.

Pretty big area Interesting sign Sign at exit, in many languages, reminding folks to drive on the left here Sign at entrance to park. Great international sign, universally understandable - doesn't need words or translation. Entering the park

Outflow from the hot geotherms flows into a local stream (at far top) Many sinkholes Big sinkholes - deep too!

  HPIM0227 HPIM0228 HPIM0229 HPIM0230 HPIM0231

The grey in the middle is mud/silt on top of the bubbling water Moss is both green, and yellow/orange (sulfur) here

  HPIM0250 HPIM0251 HPIM0252 HPIM0253 HPIM0254

The bridge down in the top left is the next place to go Zooming in from up above But it's a long climb down

  HPIM0256 HPIM0257 HPIM0258 HPIM0259 HPIM0260

  HPIM0261 HPIM0262 HPIM0265 HPIM0266 HPIM0268

Yes that's actually the trail - seems sacrilege to hike on such beautifully colored rocks Baby sinkhole and bubbler right on the trail Interesting colors Really does look like an oyster!

  HPIM0270 HPIM0271 HPIM0272 HPIM0273 HPIM0274

"Sulfur Cave" -- beautiful colors Yet another "the trail gets worse" sign! See video of this bubbler at the bottom of the index page

  HPIM0279 HPIM0280 HPIM0282 HPIM0283 HPIM0285

It is a pretty waterfall Lake at the bottom of the waterfall. Trail ends here. Going back up the circle trail, great colors Sulphur Mounds

  HPIM0287 HPIM0288 HPIM0289 HPIM0290 HPIM0291

Primrose Terraces from right next to them Looks like a river, but it's just a thin layer of water on the sinter rock Down next to the Artist's Palette, choking fumes and too much steam to see much from down here Steam obscures most of the colors

  HPIM0292 HPIM0294 HPIM0295 HPIM0297 HPIM0298

Interesting! "Inferno Crater" "Birds Nest Crater"

  HPIM0300 HPIM0301 HPIM0302 HPIM0303 HPIM0304

Back in the crater area Bob "Devil's Bath" - yes it is that weird of a green
