What is Phishing? Phishing attacks use 'spoofed' e-mails and fraudulent websites designed to fool recipients into divulging personal financial data such as credit card numbers, account usernames and passwords, social security numbers, etc. By hijacking the trusted brands of well-known banks, online retailers and credit card companies, phishers are able to convince up to 5% of recipients to respond to them. This site chronicles social engineering attacks so that users can be more aware and avoid them.

Random Stuff

SIGINT handling in shells

Network System Configuration Management

I have been a big believer in administering the network of machines as an entity rather than treating them as individual machines. Here are some useful links along the way.

Some implementations.

Ruby

I have been using Perl since it was version 3. I have written thousands and thousands of lines of Perl code. Recently I have discovered Ruby a wonderful interpreted language. Very nice and I expect it will only become more and more popular as time goes by.

Laptops

I was an early user of the HP Compaq NC4000. This details my status of using it with Debian GNU/Linux. At one time getting it going with GNU/Linux took some effort. These days most of those old problems are historical and of no further concern.

These days I have been using various IBM ThinkPads. They are really great machines. The keyboard is the best laptop keyboard I have ever used. I am spoiled for any other machine. I am so used to having everything "Just Work" on the ThinkPad. After having such good experiences with it I have been pushing other people to use them too and have bought six of them for friends and family.

Free Software Advocacy

I am a big proponent of Free Speech software.

I mother over and moderate the lists.gnu.org mailing lists GNU.

I also wrote and maintain the GNU coreutils FAQ.

I have become a proponent of Debian GNU/Linux. Debian is a high quality operating system and is the backbone of the infrastructure at this site. Here is my personal history (rant) with Red Hat and Debian.
