Subject: ROMA #2

Um, I take a lot of pictures just because things are pretty.  There's no real purpose to this one.

Here is the Forum.  I have better pics from when we visited it during the day.

More Forum.  You can see where excavations are still happening.  The deeper they dig, the more remanents of ancient cities they find.

hehe...pretty...and statues...  Rome really is very beautiful at Sunset.

More Forum

uh, statue.

more statues  (But just look how nifty they all are!!!!)

Hee hee!  This is one of my favs from all the pics.

This too.

These last few are all from the Vittorio monument.  It's amazing.

The main part of it is a tomb to an unknown soldier from WWI, and there are live guards and fires keeping vigil 24/7

I love statues

Here you can see part of one of the fires.

Ok, this is the last photo from our first night.  Time for some good sleep!!!

Here is the inside of the colosseum!!!  Like I said...huge.

As you may have noticed, the floor is missing...When the floor was in, they used to fill the colosseum with water and stage naval battles with real ships!!

Down here is where they kept the gladiators and wild animals that popped out of trap doors.  In later times it was used as a jail, a cemetary, a fortess, and finally as a quarry for building materials.  Most of this used to be covered in marble.

ok, ready for # 3.  There's going to be a lot, just a warning...
